Swifft Collective

4 interdisciplinary and connected research chairs

The necessary climate and energy transitions are not merely technical challenges; they are systemic transformations that affect everything, from our economy and infrastructure to our social fabric and fundamental concepts of justice. That complexity is precisely why the Swifft Collective was created: to bring together diverse expertise to tackle the decarbonisation challenge from all necessary angles.

The first pillar of the Collective is the creation of four interdisciplinary chairs. Each explores a different aspect of the socio-ecological transition: always connected, always learning from one another.

Each chair is composed of five members, combining professors and researchers from both ULB and VUB.

Chair in Sustainable Transformations and Wellbeing

Defining new paradigms in the field of sustainability sciences, bridging disciplines and exploring research methods towards new institutional structures.

Chair in Sustainable Engineering

Create models and frameworks for sustainable energy use that considers social, environmental and economic factors.

Chair in Decarbonisation and Justice

Researching environmental justice in the field of climate transitions, analysing how carbon reduction strategies can be designed and implemented equitably.

Chair in Decarbonisation and Finance

Map the financial landscape of the Just Transition and the different approaches to financing climate and energy transitions.
