BASKET

Shaping scalable Social Security for Food–inspired models to empower local authorities

Grounded in a transdisciplinary approach, the BASKET project challenges the existing food system by implementing scalable, income-based models inspired by Social Security for Food (such as P.A.N.I.E.R.S.), as alternatives to food aid at the regional level. By combining field experimentation, collective learning, and collaboration between local stakeholders and inhabitants, BASKET addresses the gap between policy ideals and on-the-ground realities in marginalized Brussels communities. The project aims to produce a practical toolkit that strengthens the long-term viability and replicability of SSF-inspired models.

BASKET contributes to reshaping the food system by promoting access to sustainable, high-quality food across the entire chain—from production and distribution to consumption—, because access to healthy and sustainable food should be a right, not a luxury.
